 Migraines and Croup

(Note:This was actually written yesterday but didn't have time to post it so just go with it)

Happy New Week!!! Man, oh man, am I happy to start a new week.  Last week kind of kicked my butt!!

I started off the week with good intentions to eat well and stick to my daily/weekly points and that just didn’t happen.  I have to say the first 2 week of WW was amazing for me!! And then we went out of town and I have not gotten myself back on track.  Well, this week I promise to myself to eat less and be more active.

It all started Monday when I battled a headache all day (I’m pretty sure it was a migraine.) Came home and passed out on the couch for 2 hours and could barely open my eyes to see because the light was hurting me.  I was hoping for a better day on Tuesday but no matter how many ibuprofen I took nothing was even touching that stupid headache.  How was Wednesday, you ask?  Well, I called into work. And let me just tell you a story of how I HATE calling into work. I feel guilty, I feel like missing one day is going to put me 4 days behind, I feel like I’m letting my staff and management down when I call in. I just don’t like to do it.  Evy got swept off to Gigi and Papa’s for the day and I laid around on the corn bag for awhile.  First I would put it under my neck, then I would position it on the top of my head, then I would lay the side of my face on it. I just wanted to feel better.  I have battled these “episodes” since I was about 16.  I swear I got an injury from doing neck rolls while doing Sweating to the Oldies.  Really.  My neck hasn’t been the same since.  I have a very sensitive head and neck.  I sometimes can’t even wear a loose clip in my hair because it will give me a headache. Weirdo, I know.

So I did all that business until it was time for my doctor’s appointment which wasn’t until the afternoon.  (Thank you dear husband for driving me.) There was no way I was getting myself out on the streets and stressing about driving.  Did I mention that we had a bit of snow on Sunday that trickled into Monday and a little bit Tuesday?  And let me tell ya, I am pretty proud of myself for driving on it.  (I know, some of you are probably like “they weren’t even bad”) but I DO NOT like to drive on slick streets.  So kudos to me for sucking it up and getting to work. (On top of having a migraine!)  Anyways, my doctor gave me a couple of headache prescriptions and an anti nausea pill that she said I could use for a “cocktail”.  (one Coke, one pill, 2 Advil)   Said the anti-nausea pill mixed with the caffeine should knock a migraine right out.  I’ll try anthing!

I was feeling MUCH better on Thursday.  Just a little hint of a headache so I just took some ibuprofen and that seemed to stop it before it started.  Thursday turned out great…..until about 11:30 that night.  My baby girl woke up crying and I could tell from the cry that she didn’t sound right.  I usually let her cry for a minute if I hear her in the middle of the night because she always just goes right back to sleep.  I really don’t know that she ever truly wakes up.  She went on for more than I would like to hear so I checked on her and her poor little breathing sounded wheezy and hard.  I immediately picked her up and brought her to the big bed.  It sounded like it was hard for her to breath and that wheezing sound just broke my heart.  We tried laying in mommy and daddy’s bed for a little bit but she got restless.  So I moved her back to the crib and made a pallet on the floor so I could listen to her.  She woke up several times and each time would reach out for me.  (Heart still breaking.) So I brought her to the floor with me and she laid there awhile.  Our final sleep stop was in the chair.  Me and her passed out until daddy checked on us at 5:00.  I let her rest in my arms for another 30 minutes and decided I HAVE to go to work. There was no way I could call in twice in one week. I put her back in the crib and she never made a peep the rest of the morning until it was time to leave. I even had to kind of shake her to wake her up.  I could tell she was just downright tired and didn’t feel good at all.  This is the first time she has ever really been sick so this momma’s heart was struggling “Do I call in and hold her all day or do I go to work and see how things go?”  I went ahead and took her to Gigi and Papa’s and booked the earliest appointment I could.

Sleeping in "mommy bed" as she says.

Mommy's bed next to the crib.
Surprisingly, it's not that uncomfortable.

After her appointment daddy took her home and started her on her medication.  Verdict?  Croup.  I think we caught it just in time before it had a chance to do anything else.  Her voice was a little barky but I could tell she was feeling better just from one dose of medicine. We let her sleep with us Friday night (my lower back is ON FIRE because of sleeping around her and Phoebe) but she slept Saturday and Sunday night like a champ.  I’m glad to see my playful girl coming back.  We are so thankful that she is such a healthy girl.  Not a day goes by that I don’t thank the Lord for her perfect health.  Thank you Jesus!!

A baby who is feeling much better.

Trying out a ponytail but doesn't quite have enough hair on the sides to make the pony.

This week is going to be much better and I’ve already done good about sticking to my points.  Now I just have 6 more days to go.  Gotta save those bonus points for Valentine’s Day :)

Happy Monday Tuesday!
